back of brain
Jan 10th, 2007 at 9:26am

My niece was diagnosed with moya moya when she was five and had her first surgery on the right side of her brain.  She is now ten and getting ready for her second surgery.  When having her MRA the doctor said there was also "something" on the back of her brain that they could do nothing about.  Has anyone else had any similar experiences?

My daughter also has involvement at the back of the brain, her vetebral arteries are also involved.  It is very rare, but Dr. Scott in Boston has stated that if needed, there is something that could be done.  Luckily for us, her brain has created an alternative blood flow...You might want to check with another Dr.

hey there. i've got moyamoya in the vertebrobasilar arteries at the 'back of my brain' also. it is fairly rare, and so far there has not ever been surgery in that area. and there isn't really any surgical options at this stage. however i've had direct bypasses on both sides and am doing TOTALLY FINE with those, the occlusions in the back arteries aren't bothering me at all so hopefully that will be the same for your neice!
