home from surgery
Jun 12th, 2007 at 12:14am

ok, here's the deal.  I know it hasn't been that long since I have joined you guys but the information I got  from all of you was invaluable.  I started the thread concerned and annoyed.  Well I had surgery on the 31st, was in ICU for 1 and 1/2 days, they moved me to a step down room on Saturday the 2nd and I came home on Sunday the 3rd. Shocked   All the doctors were very pleased with my progress, and a little surprised.  I was awake as they were taking me from the OR to recovery, I was awake and talking up a storm right after surgery, I was up and walking on Saturday, it felt so good to be taken off of all the iv's, and the leads.

Had one pain pill after surgery, one the following day and nothing but Ibuprofen after that.  I still can't believe everyything went along so easily.

There had been some questions on my part about the doctors at UIC in Chicago verses doctor Steinburg in California.  I had my consult with Dr. Hanjani in Chicago, I had my list of questions from this site with me to ask her, before I got a chance to ask any of the questions she already had all of them answered.  From that point it was just a matter of deciding who I was going to use.   I talked to her about California, she of course told me she believed that I would get the same quality of care with them that I would with Dr. Steinburg.  She knew Dr. Steinburg and felt that if it were a case where they only saw a few cases of Moyamoya a year then she would have recommended that I go to California.  I'm glad I stayed closer to home.

Anyone who needs to have surgery should seriously consider using Dr. Hanjani.  She is a wonderfull doctor, she has a wonderful beside manner, and the residents on staff with her are top notch!!!  I will be sending some pictures to DJ to post.  The surgery that we(the doctor and I) chose was the graft and the bypass together.

prior to surgery I like many others had the constant whooshing sound in my ears, the first thing that I noticed when I came out of surgery was that the whooshing is gone, I was afraid that is was something that would come back given a few days but it's still gone, what a wonderful sound!!! or lack there of!!!

Get this--- My surgery was a phenominal sucess, I get home to my family then I find out that we are closing on the house we are buying on Thursday the 14th instead of the 22nd like was originally planned.  God has worked several miracles in my life in just a short period of time, I hope everyone is sooooo blessed!!!!

I love to hear a success story! So glad it went so smoothly for you. Looks like you did your homework and you also found a great doctor locally! Be sure to post on the section here for doctors treating MM...so others can find her down the line.

I too had the constant "whooshing" or "heartbeat" always pounding in my left ear and sometimes on my right....it could become extremely loud and at times it drove me nuts! Luckily, I am 9months post surgery and happy to say....that is no longer a part of my complaints!

I did both rt & left STA-MCA bypass's at Stanford and was surprised at how seamless and uneventful (thank God) they both were.

I take it you only did one side? Are you planning on doing the other? Or you only needed one side done?

Again....I am so happy for you and wish you a healthy future and a new home with a new outlook on life!

Big smiles to ya....Diane : )

Hello again Sherry,

I looked up your previous posts......and saw you only needed left side revascularization. Wow...you waited 7 yrs from dx to surgery....glad you didn't suffer any major damage in the interum.

Sorry I missed your original postings for help.....I was quiet for a spell.....as I have my house "listed" on the market and spring has been busy with showings.....but alas....no offers. Best wishes for settling in quickly in your new home!

smiles...Diane : )
