Any talk of next year's location?
Aug 15th, 2007 at 11:31am

Hey, Guys!! Smiley

Has there been any discussion about next year yet?  I haven't been on the site for a few weeks (where the heck has this summer gone?), so I wanted to make sure I didn't miss the debate!!

I vote NORTHEAST!!  ;Grin Wasn't Pennsylvania one of the options discussed at the banquet in TX?

The northeast is lovely in the summer, and it's our northerners turn to not have to travel so far!!

Just thought I'd put in my  Smiley

What do you all think?  Deej, Steph, any plans (you know, not that you guys are busy right now or anything!!) Wink

Hugs to all!!  Smiley

Hi All:

When I was at Stanford a few weeks ago there was mention of Anaheim, near Disneyland.  IF that is the winner, I can certainly help since I live and work right near there.  I would also love Pennsylvania (was born there).  Virginia sounds nice (Charlottesville maybe, home of the Dave Matthews band...my favorite band).  I didn't see Maui in the hat - just kidding.  I am sure we would all love to go to maui!!!

Keep us posted!

Hi Gang....

Keep me in the loop!!  I'd love to make plans to be somewhere (at least anywhere off this "rock").  I have to say, it's lovely here in the islands, but it would be great to be elsewhere.  I think there are a lot more things to do and sights to see on the mainland.

Aloha,
Jan

Oops, sorry.  I guess I don't have a preference as to where it is held.  I only ask if it can be held sometime in July.  That way I don't have to mess with my sons year-round school.  Thanks!     Newt

I have been doing some homework on Circus Circus in Vegas.  www.circuscircus.com  It looks like probably again in June of next year.  I have found some really good room rates (looks cheaper than the last two convention rates), also found some good group rates for the AdventureDome for the kids (and bigger kids)  ;Grin .  Airfare is normally pretty cheap to get to Vegas from almost anywhere in the states.  DJ and I use Allegiant Air when we go, they are a Vegas exclusive airline.  www.allegiantair.com

I'm hoping to make a final decision in the next couple of weeks.

Thanks for your patience.

Steph

I know you all are going to consider me a "stick-in-the-mud" but do you think we could go some where a little more "kid friendly"?  I have been to Vegas before and if you are not  a "gambler" it really is not alot of fun, at least I didn't think so, I stayed at the pool mostly.  I was hoping for some where along the eastern coast??  Virginia beach sounded like alot of fun??  Do you think that could be an option??

I have to speak up here, just for the record. There’s soooooooo much to do in Las Vegas, it’s unbelievable! In fact, it’s endless. You couldn’t fit it all in your vacation if you tried. I’ll admit that Las Vegas wasn’t designed for kids, but it’s becoming more accommodating to families and kids all the time. Gambling and the pool isn’t everything. It all depends on what ya like and the money you wanna spend, but believe me it’s there.

There are tours of every kind, if you’re into that. Bus, Helicopter, Air, and walking tours. There’s Hoover Dam, Grand Canyon, horseback riding, golf, tennis. Steph mentioned great rates at Circus Circus and the Adventure Dome. That’s a 5-acre Theme Park. Now that’s Kid friendly! They also have magic shows, water parks, roller coaster rides, arcades, animal habits and the coolest mini racing cars. That’s just to name some of the stuff. For us adults there are great shows and even some kid shows as well. The different casinos have their own attractions, like Treasure Island has the pirate battle every day. The Volcano erupts every 15 minutes at the Mirage. The Statosphere has the rides. The MGM has the Lion Habitat. There are museums like King Tut’s tomb. Secret gardens and the Dolphins. Those were just to name a few. All ya have to do is look. There’s no way that there isn’t a lot to do in Vegas, and lot's of fun too, and did ya notice, I never once mentioned gambling…lol  Smiley

I am sorry, I was not trying to be difficult, it was just the last time I was in Vegas it just wasn't any fun...I guess it is who you are with!!  I am sure if we are all together it would be alot of fun!!  I was just hoping for a "beach" some ocean air and sun!!  But thats ok we can make our fun anywhere!!  Sorry again, I wasn't trying to offend anyone Lips Sealed ;Grin

Speaking for myself, I was never offended at all. I was simply clarifying some of things a family can do in Vegas, so the people who haven’t been there wouldn’t get the wrong impression.

I too love the beach, ocean and the sun, but I remember when we discussed beach settings at the first MM gathering, the MM members in wheelchairs made a good point about the handicap accessibility with any beach activities. Also, if I remember correctly, many at that time voted for places with access to "indoor" family activities as well, due to the fact MM patients are so sensitive to direct heat (like the beach) for any length of time, and they mentioned getting medical aid to a beach setting may be difficult as well. Things like that were discussed and I'm sure were given some weight.

But I agree, it doesn't matter where, as long as we're all together. I'm sure it'll be fun wherever it is.

Hi Kathleen,

Kathleen, I read your post and I never thought you were being difficult or trying to offend anyone, you were just stating your preference and giving your input.

Mar,

You mean there is more to do in Vegas than listening to ding...ding...ding...ding...ding....Congratulations! And thank you for playing Bankroll?! LOL! I love playing the slots and Vegas but laying all jokes aside, I didn't realize there was so much to do in Vegas.  I'm familiar with the different shows and the Piano Bar (had a really great time there) and off the strip at the ole Rat Pack "Golden Nugget" and the Hard Rock Cafe and Margaritaville with the sprayers.  That was a hoot! Eating dinner and getting a shower at the same time! LOL! But I really like the mini racing cars idea! I had a really great time at the last MM reunion in Vegas and would love to go back. You're both right, anywhere we go will be fun just being together.

Hugs,

Lore

Hey everybody,
I agree with Mar.  There is lots to do in Las Vegas.  I really enjoy Red Rock Canyon.  I am from Utah and Red Rock Canyon is like a miniature Zions or Bryce Canyon or even Arches.  It is also good for those in wheelchair, it is a nice road and good views from a vehicle.  It's not that far off of the Strip.  Just my opinion.
