Place To Stay In California Prior and After
Jul 17th, 2008 at 11:13pm

Good evening.

I was diagnosed with MoyaMoya and I got a second opinion from Dr. Steinberg in Stanford.  He confirmed that I do have MoyaMoya and from talking to his head nurse Teresa, he is interested in doing the procedure for me.  However, the dilemma I have is I am from Seattle and I don't know anyone in the Stanford area.  From reading the message boards and website, alot of candidates have gone to Stanford to get the procedure done.  Does anyone have any suggestion as for what I should do about a place to stay prior to and after the surgery as I know my medical insurance will not cover that and with me being single, I have limited income for the expense of the trip as it is.  Thank you for any suggestion.

Hi Thomas,
Great to see you posting here. Butch is right, Stanford housing can help you find a place to stay that is within your budget. Call Dr. Steinberg's office and ask Bob to help you get in touch. You might also take a look at the Patient Resources topic here on the site. D.J. has put up a listing of local hotels and rates. This Spring, I stayed at the Stanford Guest House. It's quiet, safe, comfortable and really close to the hospital; less than a mile away and adjacent to the Stanford linear accelerator.

If you can fit it into you schedule, come to the Seattle area moyamoya gathering here on Whidbey Island this August 16-17. You'll have a chance to meet with others who've taken similar paths to finding treatment for their moyamoya. It's comforting to know that you're not alone and good to learn how others have coped before, during and after surgery.

Best of luck to you.
Kim
