angio's done through the wrist now???
Sep 3rd, 2008 at 12:59am

i was watching the news and i heard that they are doing a new study, of doing angio's through the wrist, now, it cuts down on bleeding and you dont have to lay flat for hours upon hours, i wondering if they are doing this yet, for us so "fortunate" ones who have to have them more than the normal, i kinda hoping they are, because i have to have anthor one in december to check the right side to see it the blockage is any worse my right side was only 30% blocked,

That sounds awsome! I hated to have to have it where it was before.  My next one i will ask to have that done.

yeah, i am scheduled to have one done in december and im going to ask about it, because through the wrist they say you only have to be there two hours after rather than the six to eight.

I would have to say my favorite part of the whole process (when they don't use the angio plug) is when the sweet little male intern has to press on your groin for 20 minutes.  Its the gift that keep on giving....a huge bruise!  But you get a friend for life....I am still exchanging Christmas cards with mine.  LOL!

Now now!  No more Christmas cards for the sweet little intern cause you are an engaged woman now!  I better not hear of such nonsense anymore.  LOL!  Wink

For those of you that have not heard of the angio seal, you might check with the hospital and doctor that is doing your angiogram, as they have something called an angio seal.  This shortens the amount of time that you have to lay flat and the time you are in the hospital.  Some hospitals have this and then some don't; as well as some doctors will use the angio seal and some won't.  It depends on their preference.  Also, it depends on the way your arteries branch in your leg on if they can even use the angio seal.  But it never hurts to ask.

Thanks for mentioning and sharing the info about the "seal."  I actually had the seal used on me twice--and although I may have one less Christmas card (none from the male intern  Wink lol) you are correct in that my recovery time was a little shorter...  Still..I dislike angios and especially needles!  AHHHHHHHHHHH!!  Embarrassed

I just had my one year anniversary for my by-pass yesterday and had my 1 year angiogram two days ago.  I still had mine through the groin.  I did ask that they not tell me the results while i was on the table as that is when I learned I had a stroke the first time, while  i was a bit spaced out on the table.  They thought i had MS until that point. They didn't recognize the collateral vessels as moya moya.  That said the guy pressing down on my groin  two days ago told me anyway.  All great news, everything looks great.  I now realize that it's probably hard to think of something to talk about while putting pressure on someone's groin and the angio pictures are right in front of him so he probably figured it was good news so why not.  I actually don't mind the angiogram.  The worst part is the number of times they have to poke me trying to find a vein for the IV line.  This time it was just four before they put it in the under side of my wrist.  Not the most pain free spot.  I get to go for my CT perfusion scan on Monday.  Hopefully it will also be good news.   The other good news is that I have unilateral MMD and the unaffected side is "perfect" according to the fella applying pressure.  Have a great weekend everyone.

Deb
