Does anyone with MM wear a medic alert tag?  I was shopping the other day and the woman ahead of me passed out and fell head first into her basket of groceries.  I was an EMT for years so I knew basically what to do until the ambulance got there.  She did "come to" before she was transported to the hospital.  But I thought, what would happen if she didn't come to, and she couldn't provide the EMT's with any medical history.  I have Moyamoya with seizure disorders.  My family knows my history if they are with me, (jokingly they say they will roll me under something until I come to) Seriously, In certain medical emergencies, (like MM) time is of the essence. After being a medic and taking care of unconcious patients, medical alert tags helped significantly in some cases providing prompt treatment.  I don't know why it took this incident for me to realize how a medic alert tag could benifit MM patients in case of an emergency.  Am I the only one who just realized this?  Must be something wrong with my brain!  Thanks for any input.

In addition...I have a teal bracelet and pin for my Ovarian cancer, a pink ribbon for my friends breast cancer, do we have any color or symbols for MM?  We should!

Hi cheri -

Nope!  There have been a few threads that talk about medical alert bracelets.  I tried to find one of them (there is a brief one in the Daily Gibber Jabber section http://www.moyamoya.com/cgi-bin/yabb2/YaBB.pl?num=1224153046 but that's not the one I was searching for).  Anyway...search on!  If I find it I will post again to this thread.

WE had this conversatio in chat a couple nights ago, and Margaret had gotten one from MedIDs.com for her daughter.  She said you could have whatever you wanted ptinted on it, she has moyamoya on one side and on the other side includes her daughter has had the bypass.  Margaret said it cost about 30 dollars.  I haven't checked it out yet, but certainly plan to!

I found another alternative to the standard medical alert tags.  These were started for jogger, bikers, etc. in case they had a accident while on the road.  I contacted them and they said anything can be printed on them.  7 lines with up to 24 characters per line.  I found this is a bit more space than most medic alert tags allow.
     STA-MCA By-Pass 00/00/00 is 24 characters counting spaces!
room for 6 more lines of needed info.

Yes, I have ordered one for my daughter Annamarie.  She wears it all the time.  Just in case something happens and I am not with her, someone will be able to see what is going on.  I think it could be a life saver.  I ordered hers through MedIDs.com.  They have many different styles and prices.

Gook luck,

Margaret

I have Medic Alert for my MM. Like what you said, just in case. It is easy to apply and believe it or not, Medic Alert do have MM as one of their listed sydrome. It is better to be careful then sorry.
