question about blood pressure with MMD
Nov 2nd, 2008 at 1:07pm

Just took my daughter Destin in to the doctor (not MMD surgeon) for morning nausea.  She wakes up almost every morning and throws up.  Her doctor looked up Moyamoya and thought it could be a side effect from the change in her blood pressure after getting out of bed.  Anyone else have this problem?  Also can someone tell me what the normal ranges for blood pressure should be for someone with MMD?  I saw a number on one of the threads and they seemed high.  We're still pretty new to all of this.  She'll have her surgery 12/17 at Shands and I'm just holding my breath that nothing goes wrong before then.  This nausea thing is fairly new.

My daughters dr told us the other day that they want BPs to be 120-140 at the top number. I guess that means they are well hydrated. My daughter was vomiting every day until we got the headaches in control. Since she was put on neurontin, not 1 headache. Good luck, hope all goes well waiting for that Dec date. Keeping you in our prayers!,,,,,,Christie

The way I understand it is, the blood pressure is preferred on the slightly higher side with some MM patients before surgery to keep the blood flowing through the arteries, but not too high either. That’s why it’s soooo important that your doctor have experience with MMD, so they’ll know the best range for that particular patient and case. There are too many individual factors in each case to say what’s best in general. With MM, I would always keep the neurosurgeon informed and involved about any issues before surgery.

Keeping you and your daughter in my prayers.

I totlay agree with Mar! It is realy based on your indivigual body, and if you have any questions I would assume that your surgen would be happy to talk about it with you. If you like your normal doctor then I would ask him/her to resurch MM. My doctors not nurologist wanted to know as much as possible and they asked me if they could contact my nurologist to see if there were any precautions they should know about. I know I am lucky to have some great doctors (obgyn and family prectice).  I would ask your surgen or nurologist with MM experience.

What doesn't kill us, makes us stronger. And sometimes leaves a cool looking scar.     STA-MCA bypass and EMS Surgeries done at same time at the Mayo clinic
