That's good to hear that the surgery went well. I had something kinda like that happen to me, but it was after my surgery for me ruptured anserysum, I actually just have a shunt ( you have to have one after blood on the brain, most the time it is not permanent, its just to drain all the extra blood on the brain) taken out about 2 hours prior, ( nothing to numb it, it really didnt hurt as much as you would think) anyways, i was sitting there watching tv, waiting to go to my room on the regular floor, and all the sudden i couldnt smile for about 7 min, i paged me nurse, she came just as my episode was ending, I never really got a answer why it happened, it could, be just because we have the surgery dosent mean, we wont have mini-strokes, (tia's) we still have MMD. So i dont have any help really, but i did go through the same things almost, Its hard, but hang in there , and just be strong for your daughter,

They have her on a 24 hour EEG.  Just to see what's going on, and if it happens again what might happen. Or what kind of changes are in the EEG.  I'm doing okay, but the mom in me is struggling with not being able to make the 'boo-boo' all better.  I'm still learning a lot about this and everyone on this board has been a great help.

Gosh I'm so sorry.I know exactly how scary this can be we had complications with Kathleen after her first surgery.Have they done an MRI/MRA? Have the episodes gotten worse or the same? What are the episodes like? What hospital is your daughter in? It's still so early after surgery,hopefully this will pass as she heals.Many prayers for your family,I've "been there" and it's not a place any parent wants to be.Wish I could help.......(((((HUGS)))))) Keep us posted.

The day after I had surgery I also had a TIA. At first I thought it was a stroke. My speech was hard to understand and I could not remember how old I was. It was very scary. It took a few days to come back to me. My neurosurgeon told me this was normal because as Kim has said my brain was adjusting to the surgery and having better bloodflow to the brain. As always my prayers are with you and your daughter and family. Hang in there. It takes time.

I forgot to mention this.  She was on an EEG for 48 hours and they found nothing that we should be alarmed about.

   Hi I hope Kelsey continues to get better and I know exactly how it feels to be sitting in a hospital completely powerless over what is going on.  I just spent almost three weeks in Boston going through it with my wife.
     My name is Terry and I have been reading these posts because my wife just had her first surgery on dec 21.  That went well and on the 29th she had her second surgery. Both went incredibly well and I was and am so suprised at how well she is doing.  She did though have an episode last night where she was shaking and her body was jerking. It is kind of hard to describe but it only lasted about a minute if that.  That is the only thing that has happened since. I called her surgeon and he said it would probably subside in a few weeks.

She was virtually symptom free going into the surgery never having a stroke or a TIA to our knowledge.  From what I have read she is very lucky.  She was having severe headaches and her symptoms mimicked a stoke so she was put through a ton of tests.  The tests showed she had mm.  We live In Phila. and where told by the surgeon here to go on plavix and monitor it.  Having read about mm being progressive we chose to get a second opinion. We met with Dr. Scott in Boston and he reviewed her case in oct. and we were set for surgery the end of December.  We waited that long because she wanted to finish her semester of grad school.  Looking back maybe not the greatest decision giving what a stressful 9 weeks it was leading to the surgery.   Dr Scott performed her surgery and He was unbelievable.  Such a great guy with an incredible understanding of what were going through. The whole staff at Childrens hospital Boston was great. Being that my wife was an adult at a childrens hospital got her a private room which was good.  The whole experience was the most stressful thing we have ever gone through but the entire staff made it bearable.  Today is one week since her second surgery and she is doing really well.  Aside from that breif episode she is feeling good.  She has made an appointment for hair extensions!  The surgeons didn't do her any favors when it came to saving hair.  But her hair will grow back.  I am just so thankful that she is ok and now has a chance.   
     I will try and update her recovery as much as i can cause i believe it is important to let others know that there is light at the end of the tunnel.  I know that I am always watching her asking if she is alright and i am sure she is getting tired of it.  I am sure many poeple can relate to that.  I just know how hard it was to be completely powerless when it comes to helping someone you love.  Thanks for listening
