Hi Fred,

I can’t say that I’ve ever heard MM’er’s aren’t supposed to have caffeine, but I have heard some members say they get a headache if they drink too much caffeine.

Caffeine is like a diuretic causing the body to excrete water. So drinking several caffeinated drinks during the day, like those that drink coffee, tea and regular soda as their primary source of daily fluid intake can actually be depleting, rather than replenishing their body's fluids. The net result may be a loss of water, which may lead to dehydration, which certainly isn’t good for any MM’er. I’m a firm believer in moderation.

As with all the do’s and don’t’s for MM patients, it’s different for each patient because of their own personal factors, diet, exercise, etc, but the one thing that's the same with All MM’ers, and that’s drink plenty of fluids and STAY HYDRATED!

Smiley

My doc didn't put any type of restrictions on me - but common sense made me decide to definitely cut back on my caffeine intake.  I didn't eliminate it alltogether - but definitely cut back.  Moderation is key, as with anything.

My Dr. said no caffeine because it does seem to have an effect on my heart rate (raises it).  Of course, I monitor my blood pressure very closely (several times a day) and my BP monitor also has a heart rate monitor, so I know that it changes my heart rate.  Most ppl prolly don't monitor their pulse or BP enough to know what effects it has!  I just switched to caffeine free (already drank diet) and haven't had any problems!  It wasn't that big of a deal for me and I was a heavy pop/tea drinker.  I know moderation is a key to most things...but if you KNOW that it has NO positive benefit to you...why continue when almost everything now days is available without (i.e. caffeine, sugar, etc.)  A simple request to the "coke guy" at work and I have an endless supply of caffeine free/diet!  As long as they know someone will buy it, they don't really care what they put in the machine!  It is now catching on at work, and is almost always the first kind of soda sold out!!!
God Bless You All!

My Doctor told me to stay away from DIET pop. The nutrasweet/aspertaine/pheno... aka unnatural suger even spelenda is bad for people who have problems with headakes/migraines. He said nothing about Caffeine. Just to use common sence and drink it in moderation. If you are a heavy drinker then slowly reduce your intake because going off the caffeine cold turky is a shock to your system.
I hope this helps.

I had the surgery Apr. 2nd 08.  I don't recall my Dr. saying anything about not having caffeine, and I hope he didn't want to.  I don't drink coffee, but I drink enough Mnt. Dew that I should have stock in the company.
