Daughter in surgery
May 21st, 2009 at 10:28am

Hi

My daughter Lina is in surgery right now - left side.  This is her first surgery.  Yesterday was her angiogram and she did great.  She should be out in about 3 hours.  We are at Texas Childrens  -  but we live in Kansas.  They said she will need surgery on the right side in a couple of weeks.  This is not fun.

Greetings Jody,

This is a tough day for a parent (been there, done that!).  My thoughts and prayers are with you.  Please keep us posted as you are able, and give Lina a big hug from me, once she's feeling better.

Jody,
I remember all too well the surgeries Robert went through, its not fun but trust that it will get better, and in the mean time if you need people to talk too, a place to vent, or just a e hug you know where to find people going through or have gone through what you have

Hey Jody

I will be thinking of Lina, you and your family through this very difficult time. Just know that we are all here for you. Don't be concerned about the swelling, it's normal.

Hang in there and be strong for Lina. Lots of positive thoughts from me to your surgeons hands.

Thank you all!  Lina is being released Monday morning (memorial day).  We are staying in town for the rest of the week and going home to KS next weekend!  We'll be back for the second surgery soon.  Have to check schedules first!

Second surgery is scheduled for June 8!  Lina is doing so great.  Our surgeon was Dr Dauser in Texas Children's in Houston.  He has been a great doctor.

That is great! We are so glad to hear she is doing well. So she has no pain at all? Sorry to ask that, but our little 4 year old will have the surgery soon and my big fear is that she will have pain. Is that anything that you can tell us that we need to be aware of? I am so glad to hear Lina is doing well, we will pray for her that second surgery will go well also. Thanks for keeping all of us posted.

Hi Tunde,

Lina had very little pain after the surgery itself.  Her main problems were we found out she is allergic to surgical tape so she got blisters where the tape was - catheter, etc.  also a little rash. She also ran a fever for a couple of days and that scared me because she was running a fever when she had her strokes - although they assured me it was fairly normal to run a fever.  The other problem she had was after the angiogram she had to lie still for 6 hours and that was hard on a very active little girl!  She didn't want to get up and run around, but just to move a little.  She has done exceedingly well - the first three days were hard but after that dramatic improvement as several people on this board told me there would be!  One day she did too much and we believe had a TIA several days after the surgery, but the drs said she was still fine.  No strokes, no seizures.  We have returned home for one week and will return to Texas on June 8 for the second surgery.

Thanks everyone!

Jody

Hi Jody -

My daughter Kate went 8 years being mis-diagnosed also, but finally had bi-lateral STA-MAC bypasses in 2005.  She is 24 and doing well.

Our prayers are with Lina.  Know all will be well.  We are in Dallas.  Where in Kansas do y'all live?

Hugs,  Smiley
