follow up visit
Jul 14th, 2009 at 8:03am

Hi, I was wonder what to expect from my follow up visit. It is coming up and I always like to know what to expect.  I am going to Stanford to see Dr. Steinberg.
I am having the angiogram done in Ohio so that is one less test to do there. How long are you usually there. Will the fact that i'm not having my angio here shorten my visit? Thanks for any input. Patty Smiley

Hi Patty,

I just wanted to ask you if Stanford knows you’re having your follow-up angio done there in Ohio? I only ask this because believe it or not there is a huge difference in angio’s. The angio is one of the important factors involved in having a MM specialist. Stanford usually requires a 6-vessel cerebral angio, and this angio is vital to a MM specialist. For example, if your MM would progress to the other side and you would need surgery, (God forbid) I’m not sure having the angio in Ohio would save you from having one done at Stanford.

My niece had her follow-up Angio in Georgia and sent the films to Stanford for review, hoping to save them another trip to CA, but they ended up having to go to Stanford for another angio anyway. There were too many questions with the results from Georgia. Just thought I’d mention that for what it’s worth.

I was lucky that the nonMM specialest did the right kind of angio because she wanted to rule out MM. This nonMM specialest said it looks like MM but since I am white it is inpossible for me to have MM. Later after I got the results I looked up MM and found this wonderful site. I asked the nonMM specialest if i could go to the Mayo Clinin in MN for a second opinion. The MM specialest said I have MM and recomended a follow up a neurologest closer to home. If Dr.Stinberg okayed the angio I would be comfortable with doing it earlyer.

Let's see.  Emily had her 6 mo. check up in January.  She had the angio, the MRIs, Doppler.  If you had neuro psych exam at Stanford then maybe that too???

in addition to the tests mentioned by Audge, I had a SPECT.  You might have a xenon scan instead, but I had problems with the Xenon scan before my surgery so they always do a SPECT for me instead.
My follow-up testing was 3 days.

Hi all thanks for the info. I had my first angio in columbus and that was the doc that first told me i had moyamoya. Dr. Steinberg was happy with the angio he then and said he could do it again as long as he called them first to find out exactly what to do. The doctor in columbus was so excited when I saw him last week because he has only seen three people with moyamoya and only one who had a stroke. He was impressed that I had the bypass surgery. He thought it was dangerous. I told him that Dr. Steinberg and his staff are very experienced with moyamoya and the treatment of it, so it wasn't nearly as scary as it could have been.
Mostly i was wondering if I have the angio in columbus how many days will that reduce my Stanford visit. Thanks for everyones responses. Patty Smiley

Hi Patty,

I would think the time frame there would totally depend on Stanford and their scheduling. I would contact them and explain your situation and request all the information you’ll need. I personally would want Stanford to supply me with that info for my out of State check-up, so your trip will be as smooth as possible for you.

Well the angio takes up a full day and I scheduled the next day of mostly rest for my daughter (14) because I didn't want her running through the airport.  Are you scheduling through Bob Pulliam?  Just make sure they know and he will give you the dates they will need you for all of the other stuff!  Smiley
