Quick question for STA-MCA bypass patients (Read 3744 times)

But not so much on my right side. I have to press pretty firmly to feel anything. I'm just wondering if anyone else is or has experienced this and found out why. Thanks all Under His authority, Fred

Hi Fred,
They both feel about the same to me too. Is it possible that your Super Temporal Arteries on one side might be a bit smaller in diameter than on the other. Your neurosurgeon could tell you that or if you have a copy of the surgical notes from your STA/MCA procedures you might find the information there. We all vary some much, that it may be nothing to be concerned about, but it couldn't hurt to give you doctor a call.

I had a direct bypass (STA-MCA) and the indirect bypass (mussel hole in skull thing) on the same side. I don't know what contributes to the pluse thing but i can feel it through my softspot. As well as wheater pressure changes. so you are not alone. It is also commin up on my 4 year post op annivarsary and I still feel the beat.

It's been almost ten years since surgery and I still go thru periods of hearing the pulse on the operation site side -- but I don't feel pulse there on either side.

Nor can I feel pulse on neck/jugular vein on my surgery side (duh, there's not a lot of blood there!)

Have had the 'hearing the pulse' checked by doctors and, for me anyway, it's just part of how I am. It comes on quickly, and can last a few weeks or so.
