I had my surgery four years after I was diagnosed, with no ill effect. Patience is tough, especially if you feel that you have a ticking time bomb in your head. Try not to stress.

Hang in there. The neuropsych testing isn't absolutely essential, but it does give your doctor a baseline of your mental abilities. They'll ask you do it again six months after surgery to see if the added oxygen has improved your mental processing. Don't freak out during the test. Approach it as a challenging game and you'll get through just fine. Remember, no one is grading you.

I understand how difficult the waiting is.  Since I first read about MM in January I've been waiting...we waited until May before my daughter's ped neuro decided to take me seriously and run the diagnostic testing for MM, then we waited several more weeks before insurance issues were ironed out so that we could have a surgeon experienced in pial synangiosis perform the surgeries, and now the countdown to surgeries on 10/5 & 10/5.  I will add you to my prayer list.  Stay strong!
