Wondering????????????
Jul 23rd, 2010 at 8:53pm

It has been a long time since I have been on here. I hope you guys can help me. Embarrassed I have been getting urinary tract infections and also had a problem to go to the bathroom in which I had to force myselp to urinate. They prescribed a medication that is helping me. WOOHOO!!!!

To make a long story short I will have to take this medisine for the rest of my life and the Dr. told me that this problem is all related to my Moyamoya. Has this happened to anyone else?? Am I really alone on this one??  Undecided

This sounds like what my daughter experiences. She was diagnosed with neurogenic bladder. This is not necessarily form the moyamoya but the strokes. My daughter was five yrs old(she's 13 now) when she had her strokes and she was born with Down syndrome so she was just barely potty trained when she slipped backwards after her strokes. As time went on I noticed that she really ahd no idea when she needed to go and was going several hours  without urinating. We saw a urologist and he did a urodynamic study test and found that  her bladder was stretched (from not going often enough) and she she was unable to relax her muscles to release the urine. I found that when she laughed she would always go. We were put on a schedule for her to go every few hours ( I would usually  make her laugh in order to go). After a year or so another test showed that it was backing up a bit into ehr kidneys. At point we needed to catheterize her every few hours. We did this for a couple of years. We then noticed that she was actually going on her own at times and noticing the feeling of needed to go. We stopped catheterizing ehr and she's been doing OK. She doesn't always notice she needs to go so she wears a pad, and she still has accidents when she laughs if her bladder is full. She hasn't had any infections but we were told she would be very prone to infections. We do try to incorporate cranberry juice and lots of fluid. Let me know if you have nay other questions...

I am sorry to hear about your daughter. I am glad she is doing better. I saw a urogolist who also specializes with people who have neuro problems as well. As we all know this disease is complicated and we are the same but have different symptoms of the disease. Funny how that works. Huh

See a nephrologist ASAP!!!  Moyamoya can cause renal stenosis as well as kidney failure. A lot of this has to do with the high BP's experienced as a moyamoya patient. Our Neurologist and neurosurgeon are adamant that we see one.
