Cory,
I am sorry to hear of your memory lose. There was a period for me right after surgery and leading up to the surgery where the details are not very clear. My family and my husband helped me write a story about what i could not remember. The story starts a week before my stroke, my miss-diagnosis, my diagnosis,  surgery and ends (13 months later) after a two month recovery. During that time I don't have alot of details and there are some gaps.

I asked my neurologist and his explanation is that my brain was extremely stressed and healing and reforming some of the connections that were "damaged". The memories may or may not have been stored correctly. As for now a days... my memory is alot better.

I hope this helped.

I've had memory loss after surgeries and also after strokes. I used to program in C++ and have lost that ability. My short-term is crap but my long-term is still ok.

Yup I too had short-term memory loss after my first surgery, but when I had my second one done I immediately did things to stimulate my brain such as brain age games.  This actually help prevent so much of that loss.  I have and still go to see a speech therapist to help me with my memory and other cognitive losses I had.  It has helped me a great deal.

Cory sorry to say memory loss is not restricted to after surgery I've had 2 bleeds and my short term memory is shockingly bad. Long term memory ok. Writing things down helps but by the time I've found paper and pen I've forgotten what I wanted to remember! You do adapt to your change in circumstances Smiley
