HELEP. is high fever related to stroke?
Oct 27th, 2010 at 2:02am

Hi all, my baby Leonie is running high fever around 38.
As she got two strokes one month ago, we are so worried whether the high fever is related to stroke later? Does any kid have high fever and then stroke happen? Leonie did not have surgery at this stage and only taking medicine.

Hi Helen

Just to help put your mind at ease, Luca has pulled through a few soaring temperatures in the last couple of years without triggering anything related to moyamoya.

There are products to control fever that have no adverse moyamoya effects for little ones. Here, in South Africa, we have Calpol, but I'm sure your Dr's will advise.

Good luck and stay strong

I don't think the fever alone is related to strokes but... fever can cause dehydration. Be sure your daughter stays hydrated. Dehydration is definatly related to strokes. If you think she may be dehydrated call your Doc or go to the ER. You can keep track of hydration by checking ehr tongue my doc always said you should be able to "wet a postage stamp". Also keeping track of her "output" is she urinating... Keep us posted.

Thank you all.
Leonie was running high fever for three days until this morning, which gave us a big relieve anyway.
Yes, we give her lots of water and made her hydrated.
We ask Dr.'s opinion and give her PANADOL to get her temperater back to normal.
Leonie seems fine and no strokes happend. Smiley
Thank you guys.
Best regards,
Helen
