Hi Chantale,

I am so sorry that your son is dealing with MM, but am glad that you found mm.com.  If you have any questions, just ask.  Someone here is sure to have the answers.  Where will your son have his surgery?

I will keep you both in my prayers, and will look forward to reading a post from you after your son's surgery, letting us know how well he is doing.

Peace,

Jennifer

I will keep your family in my prayers. Where is your son having surgery? My daughter had surgery almost 9 yrs ago(she was 5) in Boston. She has had no strokes since the surgery. I know the waiting is unbearable at titmes but hopefully you'll have the worst behind you soon. I'll be praying for an uncomplicated surgery and quick and full recovery.

Thank you for the prayers.  I know that they help.  He will be having surgery in Boston with Dr Scott.  It is a long way from home in Utah, but he came highly recommended.  Can anyone give me an idea of how much pain he will experience and how large the incisions will be?

Hi Chantale,

Your son will be in the best of hands with Dr. Scott.

If you have a chance to look at my daughter's Caring Bridge site there are a couple of photos posted there which show the incision from her right side surgery.  The scars are fairly long, but because her surgeon shaved the least amount of hair possible, with her longer hair style they have not really been noticeable since they healed (pretty quickly) and some of the hair near the incision grew back.  It looks more like a long thin bald spot than a scar.

Best,

Jenn

The surgery went well and my son is doing excellent!  Recovery has been much easier than we anticipated.  Thank you to Dr Scott and Dr Smith and all of the wonderful staff at Boston Childrens Hospital.

Great news, thanks for the update.

The swelling can be a bit frightening, but will subside soon enough.

Wishing your son goes from strength to strength.

Hang in there Brittany, you can do it.  I know it doesn't seem like it now but it will be a wonderful birthday for you and many more after that.  My daughter is 16 and has MM since she was 9 when she had her surgeries.  Where are you having them done at?

Brittany, I agree this birthday will be one a many more healthy happy Birthdays. Stay strong and we will keep you in our prayers for a successful surgery and uncomplicated recovery. We live in NY also. My daughter was 5 when she was diagnosed and had surgery in Boston. She's just turned 14 and has had no new strokes. We celebrate every birthday thankful that she the year has been stroke free.
