My name is Liz I had surgery on March 24, 2011. I was operated on Thursday morning and sent home on Saturday. I am three weeks into my recovery. I had a STA-MCA on my left side. The only problems I have had is trying not to do too much. However, my recovery has been very steady. Sleep is very good. Listening to soft music has helped. Keeping calm. My friends and family have been wonderful.

I could not use pain medication because I broke out in a rash. However, Tylenol worked for me and I only need it if I try to do too much.

I hope this helps. Let us know how things are going.

Liz :) :)

Wow! That sounds too soon to me. But, I am new to this, my son was diagnosed with mm last week.

Where did she have her surgery done? I would make sure to speak to her surgeon and have all your concerns addressed and questions answered before they even consider this.

Best wishes and good luck to you and your daughter.

That does sound too soon however my brother was released 72 hours after his first surgery and he did very well. He had his second surgery one week later.

I hope this helps to ease your mind a little.

Best wishes and keep us posted on your daughter.

I was release in 72 hours too.

I agree with Liz. Everything she said is what I experenced with the exception that I din't have an issue with the pain killers, but I stoped taking them alot sooner then perscribed.

I am so Happy to hear she is doing well. keep us posted.

What doesn't kill us, makes us stronger. And sometimes leaves a cool looking scar.     STA-MCA bypass and EMS Surgeries done at same time at the Mayo clinic

Every situation is different, but I'll share our experience for what it's worth.

My daughter had her first surgery on a Monday, and she was home by late Wednesday afternoon.  I probably would have felt more comfortable with an extra day in the hospital, but the flu was raging at that time and her surgeon didn't want to keep her in the hospital with potential exposure to the flu any longer than absolutely necessary and it turned out to be an OK thing.  Her incision looked good, she wasn't having much pain or swelling, and she was begging the surgeon to let her go home.  We did end up back in the hospital overnight on Friday of that same week, due to dehydration, but were home again by noon on Saturday after overnight IV fluids.

With her second surgery 10 days after the first, she had surgery on Thursday and was home on Monday. She had more pain at the incision site (but no infection) with her 2nd surgery, so was on stronger painkillers, which made communication more difficult for her and made me more uneasy, but despite those challenges, she still managed to negotiate with the surgeon to send her home on Monday, after having spent the entire day (and I do mean the entire day) Sunday crying & begging to go home.  No problems once we were home - other than the spill she took in our entryway 2 weeks after her 2nd surgery, which resulted in a split open chin & a trip to the ED for dermabond.

Stay strong - you will get through this!  You are both in my thoughts and prayers.

Best,

Jenn
