Blood pressure advice?
Jul 18th, 2011 at 8:49pm

Started a baby aspirin just about three months ago following mm diagnosis. Feeling pretty good lately, but last three days noticed my blood pressure is a lot lower than normal.
Know I should consult my primary care doctor, but she isn't that familiar (at all?) with my condition.  Saw a specialist in NYC twice and awaiting another test with him... Not really sure if I should just wait to see if it returns to "normal"?

The readings vary, but the ones that are most concerning to me were: 106/55, 99/59, 97/55, 97/61, 101/60, 102/57

These are just much lower than I was used to seeing...

Anyone know if such a low dose could cause such a dramatic drop in bp? I stopped taking it two days ago when I noticed the readings... Is there a low blood presure reading for which I should seek care? Do I simply go on how I'm feeling?  Do i make an appt just to go have my bp reading taken?

Any thoughts?

Hi JSKL,

Obviously, I am not a doctor... but with a moyamoya diagnosis, I would think that if there was going to be an err on blood pressure, you would want it on the HIGH side instead of the low side.

If your brain is being starved of enough blood flow that it has created a network of moyamoya vessels in an attempt to supply your brain with more blood, low blood pressure could be VERY dangerous!

I would contact the physician that diagnosed you with moyamoya IMMEDIATELY (if not sooner) to get their recommendation.

Thank you for the push I needed to call... The main question was who...
Called the specialist's office I have been seeing in NYC...
They said they're unsure as to a recommended level to watch for, but instead to go by my symptoms...
I need to stay on the aspirin regardless.
Making an appt for my next test (transcranial Doppler with co2) as soon as insurance business gets worked out...

Also trying to hydrate more...

Still not feeling comfortable with those low numbers I was seeing... Might visit a walk-in clinic to have it taken professionally...

Thanks again for the words of support...

JSKL,
I am not sure on the "walk in" clinic since they may not know anything about Moyamoya. I would call your MoyaMoya specialised nurologest. Since the "specialist" you saw in NYC may not be so special I  would ask Dr. Stineberg.

Are you on any other mediications? Because the interaction betewen other meds may lower your blood pressure.

never be afraid to get a second opinion when it comes to Moyamoya. if one specialest doesn't know then another one might.

Please keep us posted,
Becky

My husband is recovering from By-pass surgery he had on June 2nd.  He is now on 325 aspirin instead Aggranox, but this is a blood thinner.  Dr. Van Loveren (MM specialist) here in Tampa says that grafts love aspirin!  My husband no longer needs his BP meds as the Dr wants his blood pressure to be in the high range so he doesn't have to take Lisinipril anylonger which he was on before they knew what was wrong.
Let me know if you have any questions!
Good luck to you!

Hi Greekswife,  glad to hear your husband is doing well.  We go to TGH today for Destin's annual CT Angio.  Don't know if we'll see Dr. Van Louvern for her results or just wait until Dr. Lewis at Shands reviews them and contacts us.
