RE-Check's

I had my STA-MCA Bypass at Stanford with Dr Stienberg.  I had a three year re-check.  What is "standard" after that?  Thanks!

Cheri ~
'Standard' is different for everyone.
Best to call or e-mail that question to Dr. Steinbergs staff ~ Teresa Bell-Stephens, RN.

Good going and congratulations !!!

Thanks for your info....my by-pass surgeries were the 1st and 8th of Feb 2006.  I have doing great and my 3 year follow up showed Great images as before surgery I had no Middle cerebral arteries in my brain.  From the circle of willis it was as though they never exisited!  What are the stat's of the STA-MCA bypass procedures?  When was the first one done?  I don't want to bother Dr Steinberg as I know he is a very busy Doctor.  Just want to know what to expect.

cheri -

We always stress on this website that everyone's cases are different - regardless of which doctor they go to.  Even people seeing the same doctor have different plans for follow-ups.  I think this is something you really need to discuss with Dr. Steinberg.  We can certainly share our experiences, but again, each person is different.

I had my surgeries with Dr. Scott.  I think all of his patients at least have a standard 6-week post-op checkup and then again after one year.  After that - depends on the patient and how they respond to surgery.  I was told I didn't need to go back unless I become symptomatic.  Other patients of Dr. Scott's are seen on a yearly basis.

So you can see everyone's experiences are different.  I think the better question to ask is - what is your experience with follow up?

Did Dr. Steinberg tell you any specifics after your last appointment?  I believe you can also email him - or as Linda said, contact Teresa Bell-Stephens.

Just my opinion...

I had my surgery with Dr Steinberg as well May 13th 2009 i went back after 6mths in Novemeber and was told i have to have a yearly ct scan at home and then go back to Stanford every 3 years to have all the test done again I just assumed this would go on forever which is ok with me to make sure everything keeps functioning as it should hope this helps a little bit but sending a quick email wouldnt hurt either

cheri,
It is true that everyone is different. My nurologest had a one month, six month, year, then 2 year, now it is every 5 years. He still keeps tabs on me through my "as needed" migraine perscription and he calls me if i refill the medication too fast. He has me keep a journnal of my symptoms but if the symptions seem in any way strokish then I need to call him for an appointment. But I am very stable after the surgery so he just wants to keep a eye out for the progression (if any).

I would bother Dr.Stineberg's team with those kind questions. You need to know what you specific MM treatment is.
just my opinion,
Becky
