Follow-up visits?
Dec 9th, 2003 at 6:39pm

SmileyAfter Cally's surgeries she didn't have to return to Texas Children's Hospital until her 1 year follow-up. At that time another arteriogram was done. Her doctor's assured us that she was fine and she shouldn't ever have to return unless there were problems. I was wondering if this is the same for everyone or do some patients go for frequent check-ups.
Thanks, Michelle

Hi Michelle!
My daughter Louise, 7, had her surgery 1 year ago and recently had her follow-up. No angiogram but MR. We live in Sweden and Louise had her surgery here and of course the follow-up but I had to ask for it! Her surgeon said it looked so good on the MR when it comes to blood-flow that angiogram was not nessecary. I have faith in her doctors (Ihave no other choice, right?) but there is so little experience of this disease in Sweden and I constantly worry about if she is getting the right treatment , check-ups and so on.
However my daughter is doing fine and there is no sign of the MM.
She is going to have some kind of follow-up once a year the doctors tell me but I have the feeling it´s just because I am asking for it, demanding it actually!

So glad to hear your daughter is dong fine; how old is she?

Can anyone tell me if there is a difference between angiogram and arteriogram, I am having trouble with medical English?

Annica

Hella Annica. Cally is thirteen. She had both her surgeries when she was 10. She is also doing great. She's just a normal teenager. She is a cheerleader at her school! I still worry every time she get's a headache but she has not had any of the symptoms that she had before the surgery. I really don't know what the difference is between the 2 grams.

I hope I am not showing my misunderstanding. I think both the "grams do with blood flow. The angiogram is just usually associated with the blood flow of the brain and the arteriogram means the body in general. I have heard them both used interchangablely by the doctors when it comes to MM. Undecided

If anyone out there has a better idea I would also be happy to know where I am wrong if I am.  Smiley

Angiography is an X-ray test that takes pictures of the blood flow within an artery (such as the aorta) or a vein (such as the vena cava). Angiography is called by different names depending on which blood vessel is being studied. For example, an angiogram of the aorta is called an aortogram; an angiogram of an artery is called arteriogram.

I hope this explains it. Medical lingo can get quite confusing. Smiley
