Hiya Fairbanks,

Yes, I applied for Social Security Disability.  I didn't want so much the disability part but the Medicaid (I can't get health insurance because of pre-existing conditions)  to help pay for my surgeries and huge doctor bills.  You can't get one without the other here.  Anyway, I was denied SO many times over a period of almost 2 years I lost count.  That is until I hired a Social Security Disability lawyer and then it took about a month to be approved.  In my opinion that is the only way to go without losing your mind in the process.  Please see my post on "Health Insurance" for links to get help in your area with SSD and/or insurance and if I can be of any help (like the best things to put on the forms for a good outcome etc.) please don't hesitate to contact me.

Lisa

I just want to say that this is an example of how brilliant it is that this website exists.

I research my family history, and I have used the Internet for years to trade information and "meet" long lost distant relatives . . . which, without the Internet would have taken me many more years to get much less in the way of results.  Until I came to THIS website recently, I had not thought of just how useful such a resource would be for people with a particular disease.

I know how valuable it is just to know you're not alone and that someone else can truly empathize with what you're going through.  That in itself is of endless worth.  But the practical side of this is amazing to me.  Being able to ask other people how they managed to finance their medical care, finding out where the "real" MM doctors are, being able to discuss the value (or lack thereof) in an article in a current trade magazine . . . these are all things I never would have imagined an online community could help with, but it makes such sense, when you think about it.

Without this site, all you MMers spread out all over the country . . . and the world! . . . would never know each other existed.

So, DJ, great job, and thanks for having this site.  I know it has made me feel much more at ease regarding my sister's illness.

I apllied for social security for my daughter and had no trouble being aproved but she had alot of damage from her strokes and it is quite obvious that she may never work again.  I know alot of other people who have in fact applied and was turned down time after time with other severe problems besides MM and only got satisfaction when they finally got a lawyer, it magically seems to go through right away. It definately is not right but it is a fact you do what you got to do.
