Weather

Has anyone noticed having more TIAs, headaches or whatever when the weather changes?  How about warm weather?  We've had nothing but humid rainy days here lately and I feel lousy!

Thanks,
Lisa

Lisa -  I have!  When the weather gets really hot or the pressure increases in the atmosphere I get headaches.  Just make sure you drink extra fluids!!  We all need to be really careful in the heat - MM sufferers or not!

The heat is one of Kahtleen's worst enemy's.She get exhausted from it.She can't really tell me exactly how she feels but,I can tell by her actions and just looking at her that she  is not herself. It shows in her school work.By the end of the day she is "wiped out".She is a pretty tough kid so I'm not sure if she is getting any headaches. One week at school a while back we got a bit of a heat wave.Well, her teachers and aid where telling me how unstablesheseemed all week slumping over kind of "out of it".It scared me but, I finally realised that it was the heat.I went into her therapy room and it must ahve been at least 80% in there and they were expecting her to "work". I was furiouse(sp?). I went to the principal and told her she had to do something about it, that Kahtleen could not work under those conditions nor should any child.the next day there was a fan in the room and the doors were open.Would you believe they would take her in there to work and shut the doors in that heat and there were NO windows!!! No wonder she was EXHAUSTED.  We also are very careful in the heat that she stay hydrated,it'svery important, and not always easy.We buy a lot of popcucles. Thanks for bringing up the subject it's good to hear that it's not jsut Kahtleen. It's sometimes hard to figure things out if she can't tell me.

Yep, I too recognize your experience about the weather affecting the MM. The first time Louise had a TIA it was really hot and she was probably dehydrated. The months before dx and surgery I made the same reflexion- she needed much fluid and was often thirsty, and was feeling worse when hot. Since surgery she is not that sensitive BUT I still keep her cool and make her drink often when it´s hot weather and also make her wear a hat when in the sun.As we live in Sweden it´s not a big problem this is a rather cold country but on vacations abroad and in the summer - july and august - it´s something we have to consider the weather as a "trigger".

I can remember when the weather would change Arianna would have lots of bad days.  Once we got thru it , she would be better.

This is really timely, as summer is approaching in the Northern Hemisphere, where I believe most of our members reside.  This will be especially helpful for those who have been diagnosed less than a year . . . be extra careful as the heat and (in some places) humidity increases, to stay hydrated and cool when possible.

I am really pointing this lecture at my sister, but it's for anyone who will take heed!  The people who love pwmm's (people with moyamoya) worry about you!

Hi -

We have noticed that when my son has TIAs,  many times it is before a thunderstorm.  He also has problems in the heat. -Paula  Smiley
