Anyone with insurance issues

Hello to all of you moyamoyers out there! Wink. This is Tom Gallucci.
If any of you have insurance issues that prevent you from getting the best care and treatment for your MM.  Leaving your state for a particular doctor or institute Roll Eyes or receiving a particular treatment or test is being denied, please e-mail me at tdgallucci@optonline.net .  send all of your insurance info and the problems that you're having.  I am working with Pat Martin and our new moyamoya foundation and insurance problems will be one of our first assignments.  Pat just had surgery so we'll gather our info for now and get started when
she's feeling OK.

stay healthy love ya all,  Tom Gallucci

Just curious as to how you can get personal health and insurance info from people with the "federal privacy act" and no foundation set up as of yet?

Matt,
The "Federal Privacy Act" prevent businesses and others from giving out your information. However, if you want to share it, it is up to you. Since, Tom is asking people to send their own information he is leaving it up to them. Hence, no privacy is being violated.

Smiley   Hey Matt, first of all "We're" not "Getting" anything at all. We are just asking and this is strictly voluntary.  Pat and I both have moyamoya and therefore have plenty of other concerns than obtaining illegal information.
In short Roll Eyes if you want or need help, participate, if not then don't.

Take care Tom Gallucci

Sure do wish you guys were around when we were trying to line everything up for Arianna's surgery.  We went round and round trying to get insurance to help cover the cost.  We didn't get the go ahead until 2 weeks before surgery.  What a nightmare.
Good luck with what you are trying to do.  I know many will be grateful. Smiley

If there was a question here, I think I missed it.  Matt, I don't think Tom is trying to be anything but helpful, but I think perhaps he did not understand your original question.  What is it that you are trying to find out?

Regarding the privacy act you mentioned, I think that concern has been addressed in that people seeking help through the foundation will be doing so voluntarily.  As for the foundation not yet being fully set up, I think that Tom is saying (and correct me if I am wrong here, Tom) that they want to be ready to go as soon as all the paperwork etc. is in place so that people in dire need don't have to wait any longer than necessary or jump through any more hoops before getting the treatment they need.

The foundation certainly won't break the law by violating anyone's privacy or by proceeding before legally having the ability to do so.  That's probably one of the reasons a lawyer who specializes in this kind of non-profit organization has been involved with the start of the foundation.

Pat would really be able to answer your questions better, but she's not going to be online again until next week at the earliest, I would imagine, as she is still hospitalized following Thursday's surgery.

Thanks for showing an interest,
Diane

Hi Tom,

Just a quick question here.  Do you have any information on how surgery in the U.S. works with Canadian insurance?  Or is it up to each individual company?  Thanks!
