Well said Jenny! I also think a Infectious Disease specialist just might very well be the answer. But Brad, in addition to that, IF you're having MM symptoms, (I don't know if you are) then there could be two totally different things going on, so even if you see a infectious disease specialist, I believe as Lisa does, it’s just as important to get a MM specialist. He would better know from experience how to deal with both your MM along with a viral infection and the associated problems.
In all fairness and respect for your doctor, I think I kind of understand where he might be coming from with all this, but I believe, as Jenny said, there isn’t any proof. BUT I have read where some researchers believe with various other diseases that certain viral infections actively invades your blood cells, and that could mean cells that line the blood vessels, so with that logic, in short, it could mean, that he feels a viral infection may play heavily into MM disease itself and how it progresses. Although again, since it’s never been proven, it’s like Lisa said, if you’re having MM symptoms, your MM should be what’s important, to prevent a possible stroke.
The bottom line is, Moyamoya IS a progressive disease!! A virus does not make MM worse or it doesn’t mean that MM gets worse because the indirect surgery hasn’t fully developed yet. It could just simply be MM the disease itself presenting symptoms. It’s common for MM to progress to both sides of the brain. That’s why we urge a specialist, one who is on top of the possible problems associated with this disease.
At any rate, I hope and pray you find your answers to all this, so you can live a long, healthy normal life with MM.
