Jim and Kathy,

Glad to hear that everything went well with the surgery.  Dr. Steinberg is an amazing surgeon!!  Jill called me yesterday and told me that things went well with Kathy's surgery.

Please keep us updated and I will continue to keep Kathy, you and your girls in my prayers.

Kathy will be up and walking in no time.  Smiley

Hi Jim:

I am so glad to hear that Kathie is doing well.  She will be up and around in no time, I'm sure.  I'm sure a private room helps big time.  After my second surgery, I had a roommate in the ICU who had a heart/lung transplant.  Bless his soul, he couldn't sleep.  Needless to say though, neither could I.  I got lucky and got a private room when I was moved to the regular ward, and let me tell - boy, did it make a difference!  There's nothing like peace and quiet to rest a brain after brain surgery.  When I came back to the hotel, I used to make everyone watch TV with the captions and no volume just because it was so much more soothing.   Smiley

Anyway, I digress.  I'm glad to hear that all is going well and my thoughts are with you all during the rest of Kathie's recovery and next surgery.

Best wishes,
Trina

Hi Kathie & Jim,

I just gotta say, we’re so very proud of you both. We know you’ve been through a lot, and we’re all keeping you close in our thoughts and prayers. One down and one to go… We’ll continue to be right there with you in spirit. You’re in great hands, in fact, the best in the world, IMO.

You go girl!! Stay strong! Smiley

God Bless,
Mar

Hi Kathie and Jim,

So glad to her Kathie is doing well and in a private room. There's nothing like rest after brain surgery. Ya Think? Smiley

Laying all jokes aside, Kathie is in excellent hands. Just look at all the awards the nurses on that floor have earned. It's amazing. I believe they could teach other nurses how to do their job and do it well.

Jim, it's probably comforting to both you and Kathie for you to stay in the room with Kathie even if it is a cot. It's also nice to get away for a bit as well. I often took walks through the gardens or sat on the terrace among all the flowers. It was refreshing.

One down and one to go. You're half way there. Kathie has accomplished a lot so far. There's nothing like blood flow to the brain. Give it some time, Kathie will begin to feel better. It is brain surgery and it is a change.

We're with you both. We've either been there as a patient or in my case, a caregiver. We know what you're both going through. Hang in there. It does get better.

You and Kathie continue to be in our thoughts and prayers.

Hugs, Smiley

Jim,

Hi.  I am only now catching up on your thread.   I just wanted to tell you and your wife congratulations for making it through the surgeries, and the wait before the surgeries!  I'm so glad everything worked out well... I know how scary it is when you first get the diagnosis, and what a relief it is to finally see your loved one come through surgery.

Hi Jim,

So glad to hear Kathie is on her way to recovery. The surgeries are over now and it will get better as time goes on. You're right when you mentioned Kathie was fortunate to catch this disease early without experiencing a stroke with dibilitating consequences. I too am grateful to Dr. Steinberg for saving Kevin's life. Even though Kevin had a significant stroke, with Dr. Steinberg's intervention, Kevin is doing very well and with therapy, he has done remarkably well. It's amazing what blood flow will do for the brain.

I also believe that anyone diagnosed with moyamoya should at least get an opinion from a MM specialist. Had I not gotten an opinion from Dr. Steinberg and ultimately surgery for Kevin by Dr. Steinberg, it goes without saying Kevin would not be here today. We will forever be indebted to Dr. Steinberg, Teresa and the entire Stanford MM team.

Please keep us posted on Kathie's progress. We want to know how she is doing.

Hugs,

Lore

Hi Jim & Kathy,

I'm a little late, but nonetheless, I want you to know that my you both are in my  Smiley, thoughts and prayers.  I thank God that Kathie was able to get the necessary medical attention she was in need of!  I had to have an emergency double bypass last year (May) since I was only properly diagnosed by my THIRD opinion!  In fact, I had my surgery 2 days after being diagnosed, so I can relate to how quick Kathie had to have her surgery too.  I too was having headaches for most of my life and by that time, I was experiencing TIA's.  Anyway, enough about me.  I hope that you and Kathie return home safely and have a full recovery.  Cheesy

Jim, thank you for allowing us to be there for you throughout this experience.  Smiley  We will always be here for you and your family!  Please keep us posted on Kathie's recovery and let her know we're thinking of her.  Smiley

Blessings,
Shan

Jim and Kathie,

As you head off for Indiana tomorrow, I just want you to know that you have our well wishes and prayers for a safe trip home.  We've so enjoyed meeting you and spending time getting to know you.  Despite the circumstances that brought you here, you know I believe there are no coincidences, and that this is all very much part of God's plan.  You're definitely part of our family, and we can't wait to see you again!!!!

You've thanked us for things we've done for you, but I can't even begin to tell you how much we get from the friends we've made and the relationships that are being built.  (And you know how I love the "pay it forward" theory that you're starting to take part in!)

See you in a few hours for our ride to the airport!

Lots of love,
Jill (Campbell, Tara, Abby and Speedo, too!)

Hello Kat and Jim,

I have just been dx'd a few weeks ago and as of yesterday I was in contact with Jill and Jolie over at Stanford. I will express mail my cd's to them and wait to see what Dr Steinberg has to say. I am 75-80% bilatterally occluded.

I have read your whole post and felt like I was in your journey. So glad your wife is doing well 6 months out.

Sorry your wife had mm, but thank you for sharing your story with us. (for us newly dx'd it is like oxygen to hear these success stories)

warm wishes and good health to you and your family,
diane : )
