Anesthesia during MRA
Jan 19th, 2006 at 3:02pm

My 11 year old daughter is scheduled to have an MRA and MRV for a possible moya moya diagnosis.  She is going to have anesthesia because it would be difficult for her to stay still for that long and I understand you have to be reeeeallly still.

Once the anesthesia dept. learned of the potential diagnosis, they now want to intubate her during this test, rather than giving her "conscious sedation".  Has anyone else had a child that had to have anesthesia during a test, and did they have to intubate them?  It seems so extreme....

Thanks so much,

Sharon

Sharon,
My daughter is 23 and has just had this done in CA. and had to be sedated because she has involuntary movements from her strokes and has had this test several other times and has never needed to be intibated. I'm no Doctor but that seems extreme to me I would look into that further or maybe choose to have it done somewhere else. Good Luck!

Kathleen's had many mra's and been sedated. She's never had a problem breathing but depending how mmuch medication they have to give her to sedate her they have a Dr. from the NICU in the room with her and they moniter her breathing and O2 levels.I would definatly question the intibation, and what thye're using to sedate her.We only have one hospital nearby that does sedated MRI's a lot of hospitals aren't used to doing them. What are they using to sedate her? They could get in touch with one of the specialists that are mentioned on this web site like Dr. Scott.I'm sure he can instruct them as to what the protocall should be for her.Keep us posted..
