Severe Headaches
Feb 26th, 2006 at 4:47am

Hi.  My 16 year old grandaughter Laura was diagnoised in 1999 she has had two EDAS and Multipal Bore Holes, she still suffers from severe headaches and nausea, does anyone have similar symptoms or any ideas about medication that may help.  Currently using morpine which does not help.  TIA's are still happening. sleeping is also a problem due to the headaches.

hi,
well up until recently i was often saying "man i'm so lucky to not experience the constant head-aches that a lot of people seem to get...:

and yeah i spoke too soon i guess.... everyday for the past couple of weeks.... have been taking panadeine every day, which has helped and that's great.... limiting it to 1 a day and dealing with it (using several litres of water) until i really can't any more....

but yeah from what i've read around here, most people haven't been able to escape them without pain-killers.... so i'm not sure...

Thanks Emily, Laura was diagnoised 7 years ago had two EDAS and 12 bore holes in the following 5 years, severe headaches for 7 years, only odd few days here and there without pain.

Will look up Panadeine to see if it is available here.

I have dealt with daily headaches for about 15 of my 29 years.  One major struggle was finding a doctor who didn't just want to put me on narcotics.  I am currently seeing a neurologist who has me on nortriptylene and vitamin B2.  This combination has been like a miracle!  I have MAYBE one headache every other week.  Tell Laura to hang in there!!  It's so very frustrating to search for the right medicine that will help.  Hopefully she will find some relief soon.
Hugs,
Chelsie

Hi there Pat,
Yeah I too, suffer from post surgery headaches. had STA MCA's done in 2001 and have suffered bad headaches on and off over that time. I am at the moment in a headache free state, but know that they will sooner or later present themselves again. I take Oxycodone and Digesics for mine (they are classed as opiates in Australia) but I find that they are the only things that will knock my headache out without it going on to last 5 or 6 days straight. The other thing I have been prescribed is Amytriptylene which in low doses can help headaches before they fully develop but in high doses is used to treat depression!! I don't have trouble sleeping but if I feel like I'm not getting to fall asleep, a meditation CD and Insence works for me

Pat,

My husband has been having severe migraines before and after his surgeries. (June and July of 2005) Right now his doctor has been trying to find something other than narcotics. We have finally gotten a hold of a neurologist who wants to try Botox. They have found that Botox helps with migraines???? problem is, is that most insurance companies won't cover it. I am trying to get a pre approval from mine. We have tried everything and hoping this will help.

Hang in there and my thoughts are with you.

Terry,
It is Stephanie! I hope you two are doing well.  I am soooo intrigued with the idea of using Botox to treat migranes.  I am currently suffering from an almost non-stop headache.  The degree varies, but stays around a 4-5, with an occasional spike to.......me not being able to function. I have been given loads of different meds, from anti-nausea meds (even though I suffer no nausea from my migranes) to an antihistamine.  Problem is both these meds put me sound asleep.

I use to take tylenol, but was warned that Tylenol can cause very bad rebound headaches.

Now all I take daily are my seizure meds (thought to help with headaches) and @4-6 Aspirin.  Can anyone tell me what the meds mentioned in the previous posts are for?

Thanks for any suggestions----
Stephanie

Hi Stephanie,

So glad to hear from you. There just so happen to of been a report on the news (over a 3 day period) about how they have found that Botox helps people with their debilitating migraines. They have found that it has helped at least 90% of those who have tried the treatment. (They also stated there are some it doesn't help---but at least there it a 90% chance) Also that the injections can last up to 2 months.

We are meeting with his neurologist again the 20th of this month. I'm hoping Bob will be able to start the treatment then, but their may be certain things they have to have him try before the Botox can be considered medically necessary.

I lost your phone number so sorry for not calling. Hope all else is going well for you. We do think about you a lot.

WOW Chelsie! I am on Nortriptylene also and my headaches are WAY better. Like, I almost never get them anymore. And I have been dealing with them for over 15 years.

Stephanie. Nortriptulene is an anti seizure med. I think it may have some anti-deprsant qualities, too. That is what my doc told me.

Anyhow, any of you who get headaches, get on the drug! It's a God send.. and it's cheap, too!!
