careers... specifically medical field or EMT

Hi.. .I 've asked before, but how many of you are EMTs or doctors and such the sort on this board?  I feel my brain isn't smart enough to handle the classes I need to take to go to med school. I was so smart in high school and once I hit college it sorta went downhill with the progression of the MM... I know I'm probably not up to it, but I've been part of a program that does kind of what EMTs do.  I'd love to go back to work and to be involved, but I'm just unsure of the risks.  If anyone else has these types of jobs, how long was it before u went back to work after surgery?  I remember always feeling really sick for a whole day after working (before surgery, not sure about post op) and I think it was the heat or strenousness causing MM symptoms to flare (before I even knew it was MM)

and unsure of what capabilities I will have to actually start over and retake Chem/ Organic Chem to do the med school route.  I feel like I found another area of study and was happy with it, but honestly my mind can't keep going back to the fact that I really was a premed student and I just can't seem to ace my classes in the bio/chem sciences anymore due to the MM. Frustrations to the max.

hi there... doubt this will help entirely... but i just thought i'd let you know what i'm going to be studying medicine...
i have MM... have had 2 surgeries in the past year and (prior to those, still in the past 12 months though) multiple strokes..
my memory is still not what it used to be before the strokes/surgeries... however it's constantly improving and is fairy easily trained... my logic and problem solving etc.. is better than i can remember [haha slight unintentional joke there] in years..
i'm currently just working though to earn money to travel OS a bit before i buckle down for another degree.

still work working and studing and all that.. as long as i keep my diet healthy - frequent meals, large protein and fluid intake.. and regular sleep patterns... the MM doesn't affect me in daily life and i'm 100% confident i'll get through it all and be a neuro-surg in no time  ;Grin hehe

Hello there...

I've been off this site for awhile now, but just recently saw this post.  I, myself, am a nurse and definitely think that the medical field is a bit trying for someone with MM.  Particularly with the sleeping aspect...and doing an internship/residency.  I've been working night shift for eight years now, and definitely notice a direct link between lack of sleep and symptoms.  My advice to you is follow your dream...I wouldn't change my career for anything...but just stay in touch with your body, and try not to over-do-it!!!  Good luck!

Hi. I am a RN.  I had my 2 surgeries while in the middle of nursing school.  I now work in the Neuro ICU in Houston and have done fine until I got pregnant and cannot take my meds.  I have terrible headaches now, but my intellectual functioning seems to be okay.  I am often aphasic (can't think of words).  I can talk around and describe the word, but just can't say it.  (Ex: the word is red, but instead I say not pink, use it to make purple with blue...)
It's quite frustrating.  I feel stupid in front of my collegues.
