PET scan?
May 2nd, 2007 at 11:29pm

Ok, so our neurologist talked to Mayo Neurosurgeon today, and he said, "in the order of least invasive first, the next step is a PET scan."

Good grief.

So we're waiting to hear when we can go down for that. (We're only about an hour and 20 minutes from Mayo in MN) It should be in the next week, except that there is supposed to be no aspirin therapy 10 days prior. (She's only had 4 days of it.) But the neurosurgeon is leaving town in 2 weeks and he wants this done before he goes. They'll be doing some other test the same time(can't remember....I think it's the SPECT. Does that make sense?) and the combination of those will decide if she needs the angiogram.

so more waiting.

I suck at waiting.

You may want to read the first thread at the top,
"Diagnostic process and questions for surgeons"
You may find it helpful.

Yes, I saw that this morning, and asked the neuro why we're doing the PET because it didn't sound to me like something routinely done with MM. He said that Meyer at Mayo wanted it done. So....that's what I know, which is nothing.  Undecided

I guess you could call me a very distant neighbor. I live in Waterloo,Iowa. Was diagnosed with mm in 2002 at the University of Iowa Hospitals. I had a choice in the begining of all this between Iowa and Mayo. I chose Iowa only because I could get in sooner. You are very lucky to get in to Mayo so fast. I had a Pet scan before my angiogram and a SPECT scan after I had bypass surgery. You are taking the right steps.

Good luck to you and your family.  Skay
