Discovery Health TV Program
Jul 25th, 2008 at 10:22pm

Did anyone happen to see the Discovery Health program last night on television? A young woman was admitted to the hospital with stroke. They actually mentioned moyamoya as a possible cause and briefly discussed the disease. I was floored. Maybe, finally the message is getting out. Turns out the patient had stroke due to steroid usage, but at least moyamoya was considered.

I saw that!!!! I even had to rewind it and listen again.I can't rememer the name of the show maybe Mystery ER? An intern had a stack of flashcard he was going through to help diagnose her,and one of his cards had moyamoya on it, the others kind of chuckled when he said it.So he gave a brief explanation.Word IS spreading I think.I LOVE that channel by the way, I watch it all the time.

I was talking w/a nurse at our pediatrician's office yesterday and she asked how Emily was so I assumed she knew about the surgeries and gave her the run down of how she was and everything.  She didn't know that Emily had MM and when I told her she said that she had seen that on Mystery Diagnosis on TV before!!!

Hi All,

Unfortunately I missed the Discovery Health porgram but I am thrilled to hear that Moyamoya was featured.  Anytime Moyamoya is featured it is another step toward awareness of the disease.

We have a MM family member who was featured on Mystery Diagnosis a couple of years ago.  She is a very young girl named Daphne. She was treated at Stanford by Dr. Steinberg.  I didn't do a search on the sight but I believe there is a thread on Mystery Diagnosis and Daphne.

Awe shucks! I missed it!  I love watching the Discovery Channel...Mystery Diagnosis....Medical Incredible, etc.

I do remember seeing Daphne's story.  Her webpage is also unbelievable and  Smileywarming.  Does anybody know how Daphne is doing these days?  I'm sure she must be big now!  ;Grin  How about Cara?

Thanks for sharing, Kim!  Good to hear that the word "MM" is getting out!

Aloha,
Shan
