Medication?
Aug 22nd, 2009 at 3:52am

I am not working, but my husband just got a new job that will not cover my medicaton bill.  I have applied for Medicaid, but I am running out of meds.  Is there any place that I can get help fast, especially with my seziure med?

Hi Twyla and welcome to the MM Family.

It sounds like you may be eligible to get your prescription drugs free through pharmaceutical companies. Your doctor can complete the necessary paperwork for you. These programs are based on income.

Here are some programs that may help you.

Partenership for Prescription Assistance www.pparx.org
888-477-2669.

RX Assist www.rxassist.org - this allows you to search a database of patient-assistnce programs by medications.

Needy Meds www.needymeds.org - This is a non-profit resource that will let you search for drug-assistance programs.

Discount Cards

Together Rx Access www.togetherrxaccess.com 800-444-4106. This is a free prescription savings program that provides a 25 to 40 percent savings on more than 300 brand-name and generic drugs. Annual incomes of $45,000 or less for an individual, $60,000 for a family of two and up to $105,000 for a family of five.

As Islandentity mentioned, generics are another way to save and especially with $4 for a 30-day supply.

It may be that you will not benefit from a generic if it involves a seizure medication. Some classes of drugs, such as seizure meds, sometimes are not effective in a generic form depending on the individual and the type of seizure med and some seizure meds are not available in a generic form.

I hope this helpful to you.

Twila if you go to Walmart.com they have a link to information about their Pharmacy and you can look up the medication to see if it's on the list.  Kmart has a similar program, and in fact once they started those programs most of my local pharmacies match their price...if you mention to them you can get your medication cheaper elsewhere, they will give you the $4 price.  Also, a good local family pharmacy will look up for you any companies or programs that offer assistance with prescription drug costs.  Just give a local pharmacy a call and explain your situation and they will look it up and give you the information of which exact company offers assistance with your specific medication.  This of course is in addition to the excellent information Lore provided.  Just have faith and don't give up!
God Bless You
