Neurologist in DC area
May 9th, 2011 at 10:43am

Does anyone have a recommendation for a neurologist in the DC area?  I recently had my surgery at Stanford with Dr. Steinberg but am looking for someone to follow up with locally.

My neurologist is Dr. Debbie Lin from The Neurology Center in Rockville, MD. She is great. She was the first doctor to recognize my symptoms and very quickly scheduled me for a MRI and an EEG then an angiogram at Hopkins. She called me the same day I had my MRI and EEG to tell me the news. Then she met up with me and my family the following day and explained everything in detailed for us. When Johns Hopkins told me that they won't do surgery she had me send all of my files to Dr. Steinberg (I'm waiting to hear from him, actually).

Best wishes to you.

Thanks for the recommendation.  I have an appointment to go and see her next Friday.  Was originally seeing someone up in Baltimore, but didn't really feel comfortable with him, so hopefully this will be a better fit.  Plus, it's closer!  What ended up happening with you?  Did you have surgery done at Stanford?

DCMM, my wife was the one that recommended Dr. Lin. She had 2 STA-MCA surgeries at Stanford last November and followed up with Dr. Lin when we got back home. She is doing very well and we are heading back to Stanford for her 6 mos. follow up.

She no longer suffers from hemiballismus movements, intense headaches and numbness. Johns Hopkins was against surgical treatment because she did not have a history of strokes. Avoid JHU at all cost if you seek treatment for Moyamoya. Specifically Dr. Wityk and Dr. Tamargo. If we had not gone to Stanford, God knows what quality of life my wife would have have.

Thanks for the update, Brian T!  Happy to hear your wife is doing well.  Good luck with the 6 mo follow-up.  I know I felt much better after hearing everything was fine at my own follow-up.

Really liked Dr. Lin.  Had been seeing Dr. Wityk and he seemed to think/imply I shouldn't have had the surgery (had one STA-MCA at Stanford), which is one reason I was looking for someone else.  It's nice to know I'm not the only one with that experience.
