What usually happens after surgery?
Oct 12th, 2011 at 1:54pm

Hi. I was diagnosed in February and just got through all of my tests. I meet with Dr. Zager at The University of Pennsylvania on Monday to discuss the MRI/MRA/angiogram results and probably schedule surgery, but I was just wondering if you could help me out.

What are the follow up procedures after surgery? I know every doctor is probably different, but I just want to prepare myself.

Thanks in advance. Smiley

The surgery bilateral ecic bypass is major surgery. You will need someone to stand by you for support.

I'm lucky to have my husband at every single appointment. My in laws live nearby and will be trading off taking care of my two boys with my mom.

I was asking more in terms of post surgery follow up.

Of course it depends on the type of surgery, direct or indirect, but I can  tell you what happened with my daughter.  She had the indirect (EDAS) and six months after her surgery she had an angiogram to see if the surgery was working.  then she had a nother follow=up at one year.  she still has a CT-angio annually.  Good luck with your surgery and take it slow when you get home.  sounds like you'll have a lot of support and that is great!

It is good that your husband is able to help you, I found it to be hard work, good luck. My wife had several issues with the surgical incision getting infected that required drains put in the scalp and antibiotics. She had PET scans done and some other test that were not invasive, no more angiograms for her, she's had enough of that. A lot of physical/occupational/speech therapy for deficits from strokes prior to surgery, no strokes after surgery. Dilantin and something to prevent clots, no other meds. Good luck, hope it works out for you.
