What is best center for MM in the US?
Oct 5th, 2012 at 11:16pm

I am Asian 38 year old woman and had a stroke about 4 months ago.  After months of tests and meds treatment for possible atherosclerosis or vasculitis in the brain- my neurologist suspects MM and recommended I recommended I go to a center that specializes in this.

Is Stanford the best?  Are there other places that are recognized?  I live on the east coast, but just want to know the best options.

Thank you for anyone's help...

I am almost one year out from my surgery for MM.  Although I sent my scans to Stanford and they were so helpful...Dr. Scott in Boston recommended Dr. Rose Du at the Brigham which did my surgery and she was great!  I would strongly recommend her.  The best to you.

I went to Stanford had my surgies at age 40... the staff and doctor were great.  I chose them over a doctor in Oregon where I live.  Basically we decided the experience and familiarity with moya moya was in our favor.  Plus the surgeries were a week apart versus six weeks to three months apart as planned by the Oregon doctor...  check the doctors numbers and history thoughorly and maybe contact previous patients of theirs if possible.  Plus you may have to consider travel, finances, accommodations, family support, as sell as follow up visits over the years.  Hope you find the right and suitable and knowledgeable doctor for you and your family!
