As promised, I finally had the chance to drive down Route 1 in Princeton this morning. I haven't had the chance to call the hotels directly. However, the rates qouted below are from Hotels.com

Radisson Hotel, 4355 US Highway Rt1. Princeton, 3 Star Rating, $88 per night. Approximately 5 miles to downtown Princeton.

Howard Johnsons, Rt 1 Lawrenceville, 2 Start Rating, $90 per night. Approximately 9 miles to downtown Princeton.

Courtyard by Marriot, 3815 Rt 1, Princeton. $109 per night, about 3 miles to downton Princeton.

Hyatt, Rt 1 Princeton, $139 per night, about 3 miles to downtown Princeton.

I've used Hotels.com before and have not had any problems. However, they will charge your credit card immediately and not when you stay at the hotel. Cancellations can be difficult so be sure of the dates you wants. Also, I've also had luck calling the hotels directly before and asking/getting the Hotels.com room rate.
