Stress Test Today....

Well, with all of my rants and raves about a few slight side effects of the Plavix, mainly a few ocassions feeling like my heart was going to explode...the doctors put me in for a exercising stress today...great news, I passed with flying colors...no heart issues....just head issues.

After being on a no exercise demand from my neuro, it felt great to be on the treadmill, having the heart pumping, breatheing hard....and not feeling like I was going to pass out. After nearly 16 months of no exercise, man did the endorphines feel good.

Only 2-1/2 months before the next neuro follow up....

By the way, I'm not sure if it is a placebo, but the Plavix does seem to be helping.

I was misdiagnosed with MM in March of 2005. In January 2006, I was told it is not MM, but rather a massive restriction in the MC1 segment of my left carotid artery.

Hi Greg,

Good news on the stress test and no heart problems. That is at least one less thing to have to deal with. Unfortunately, I'm no help when it comes to Plavix. Sounds like you had some side affects to the Plavix (heart feeling like it is exploding). Maybe an alternative to Plavix would work without the side effects?

It is fair to say you are just a "head" case? LOL Smiley

I'm a true believer that one must find the humor in all this or one could go nuts! Laughter sets the spirit free!

Let us know how you are doing and especially the neuro follow up.

How are you feeling aside from the Plavix? Are you experiencing other symptoms related to your head other than the insurance headaches?

yeah so what's your problems with plavix sorry? i've been on it since october last year and i must say that if i forget to take it [for a few days] i certainly can feel the bloodflow slow right down... which is not cool... never had any bad side effects!

i don't really notice the difference between plavix, clexane and heparin - just the way they are delivered.... they all make life a hell of a lot easier though!
anyway, fingers crossed i wont need any of them in a week!

Hey Emily,

Within a week of starting Plavix, I ended up having a heavy chest feeling about once per week. Seeing that this is not a common side effect of Plavix, the doctors decided that it was better to play it safe than sorry...so off to the hospital for the stress test. I am convinced that it is a side effect of the medications, as if there is a potential side effect, I am the first to get most of them.

When I was discharged from the hospital in January, they placed me on Aggrenox...with three days, I was having just about every side effect on the medication listing....hence, they took me off and started me on Plavix.

I look at this way, as long as I know that it is not causing any long or short term damage, I willing to suffer with an occassional side effect.

My family has been calling me a head case for years...but that is only because I've spent most of my life in school between high school, my bachelors, my MBA, and a few other degrees that I started and stopped....that is why there is some irony in me having an blood flow issue in the brain....I guess those late nights of studying really do cause drain bremage...no wait, I think its brain damage.

The MBA was a piece of cake.....seeing that at the time I worked at the corporate headquarters for a leading world wide consumer products company, it was quite easy to get help from the right people....made school so much easier...

And, if it weren't for my family and the humor we share, I would have gone completely crazy when I was misdiagnoised last spring. Besides if you can't laugh at yourself....you are taking life way too seriously.

NYC marathon....I don't think so, as I get tired walking up two flights of stairs to my apartment. About the only thing that I could do in the NYC marathon at this point is to stand along 1st avenue with a beer in my hand and cheer the runners along. On a personal aside, Dr. Dennis, my neurologist, ran the NYC this past November in under four hours. I had an appointment with him about three weeks later and yelled at him for not wearing a MM awareness t-shirt...in addition his "incorrect" diagnoisis for me, one of his nurses' niece had an indirect bypass a little over a year ago for MM in Boston (if I recall correctly). He did agree to wearing something for MM if he ever gets crazy enought to run another marathon.

Hi Greg

I take Iscover (in Australia the company markets the same drug as both Plavix and Iscover) - like Emily, I have no side effects. Except for the constant bruises - I only have to look at the corner of a table, and I have a bruise. (Should look good next summer when in my bikinis !)

As to the head humour - my work colleagues were bagging me out at a large meeting - I brought the meeting to absolute silence, when I asked what did they expect when I had had a lobotomy !
I also regularly mention to those I hold near & dear, that at least I have proof that I have a brain.

I totally agree with Lore - without humour, it would be hard to survive.
