Hi Mlgohsman,

It is good to hear from you and I am glad to hear your surgery is behind you and that you have regained strength in your hand.  That's a good sign and very positive and encouraging news.

Are you home from the hospital?

After any major surgery one will experience pain but if you are experiencing a lot of pain, ask your doctor about your specific level of pain and if something additional can be done to ease some of the pain.

I pray your recovery will continue to be smooth and  positive.

Keep us posted on how you are progressing in your recovery.

Hugs,

Lore

Oh yeah!  I was in a lot of pain after my surgeries.  As we always state on here, everyone is different and some don't feel any pain.  My pain was in the form of bad headaches and throbbing in my head.  I took basically a prescribed pain medication - something like Tylenol with codeine in it and had to take it every 6 hours.  As soon as it wore off my mom was right there waiting with it and a glass of water.  LOL!!!  Definitely get something for the pain though.  It definitely helps!

Glad to hear everything went ok.

Michelle,
So happy to hear everything went with surgery.  Sorry we didn't get a chance to talk before but I'll give you some more time to recover and then give you a call.  If the headaches continue to be bad I would also suggest you call the doctor and ask for some meds.  I remember those days well.  Continue to heal and your in my prayers.  Talk to you soon.
Best wishes, Lorie

Hi Michelle,
It great to hear that everything went well for you. Bet that first walk outdoors felt great!
I wanted to say that the blockage in the artery doesn't go away; it stays blocked. But, that's OK. The blood that provides the nutrition to your brain is now coming from the scalp artery as well as the clogged artery. Its kind of like pumping water through a garden hose from both ends.
Knowing this, the question I asked my doctor was "What happens if the blockage should go away, he told me not to worry, it never has.
All that matters is that the entire brain is getting a good flow of blood.
Best wishes to you and for your swift recovery,
Kim

oh thanks Kim, that totally makes since, i guess im kinda scattered brains lately, lol,   Smiley I just hope then that the new artery stitched in holds and doesnt undo, does that make better sense? lol, I am sure everyone knows what i am talking about. I was talking to my Hubby, and I guess all the interns and everyone was fighting to get in on my surgery, because, its a rare once in a lifetime for them, or something, and i remember, going in laughing ( i dont know why) but i came out crying, because the pain was the worse thing ever. But i wanted to let everyone know, today I am feeling better good, not much pain, just now itching from the healing and of course i am like a little kid and i so wanna itch it, and i try my best not to. i go Tuesday to get my staples out, and the 24th for a check-up,

I do have one question, anyone had a problem before thier surgery have double vision?. well i did, and sometimes since the surgery, i find myself getting dizzy feeling like i am about to, but i dont, I will discuss it with the nurse on Tuesday, but i was wondering if anyone else had that problem?

Hope everyone is doing great, take care all Smiley

I didn't have double vision, but a kind of occular migraine where for a few minutes everything I saw looked like those images on TV of people whose faces are being hidden from view. It only happended maybe four or five times during the several years before. I'm still not certain if this was related to my Moyamoya, but the last time it happend was just a few days before my stroke.  None of that since my surgery and no dizziness.

Think you're wise to talk to your doctor when you go in to get the staples out. It's hard to know what's normal and what's not.

It's good to hear that you're feeling better. Hope you're able to get plenty of rest - must be hard though with little kids about. It those kids though that make it all worth while.

I'm so happy to hear that your surgery went well.  I'm sorry, but I can't tell you much about being in pain (I barely had any) though I did have quite a bit of bruising, they had to take me off of regular aspirin and put me on low dose.  I can tell you that itching from the incision drove me nuts.  I was also going crazy because I couldn't watch TV.  I need my glasses in order to see...since I had both sides done a week apart and my glasses would rest on the incision, I had a hard time doing a lot of things.  I was SOL (s*** out of luck)  Smiley  I also get up very early and ended up stalking the halls at 4 am.  That was pretty good since no one was really walking around at that time, I could use the computer to check up on my email without anyone bothering me (though it drove the nurses crazy looking for me).  (I'd lean in extra close so I could read the screen.)  The worst part for me was I found out that I have hayfever.  We don't have the four "seasons" like you have on the mainland, so my allergies aren't very bad or never really bothered me here.  I had my surgeries during spring when the pollen count is really high and I was miserable. Smiley  They couldn't give me anything to relieve the symptoms.  The only pain I had was when I sneezed Wink.

Oh how blessed you were to have not much pain. I so wish I didn't have any, but as time goes by, I know this sounds odd, but I miss the pain, I guess its because everyone would baby me, and do things, and thats ALWAYS nice to get extra attention. I know I am weird, sometimes I find pain interesting, because I guess it just makes me feel more normal and human, like every other "normal person". I do find it hard sometimes, because it feels no one here for family or friends ( at home) understand what it feels, its like I am not sure if I will live, and yet they dont know if tomorrow if they are going to pass away, it just seems so much more frighting, because, its like I was knocking at deaths door before my surgery, and I want to get an article in the paper, about the whole "wait and see approach" for anything, because I remember being told, I didn't have moyamoya and I would just have a load of strokes and die, now, I know I am more than likely be alright, its sad, some people actually wait and see, and I wanted to say, I am so very very grateful DJ started this group, because its so great to come here and get info and just for the listening friendship, and the understanding, thanks everyone for all the prayers and all the answers I hope everyone has a fantastic week and take care
