My daughter just had cranial revesculization surgery (edas) done two days ago. She is 10 year  old asian decedent. It was done in choc in california, orange county by Dr. louden, who said he is doing surgeries about 5-10 a year. I am little concerned because it's been more than 48 hrs after surgery, but she still can't talk right ( but she response to our command by saying ye, ye) and her affected side(right side) still seems weak. She is still very disoriented and agitated and restless. Initial cat scan was good and second cat scan was done to see if everything is ok, and it was still good. They said little fluid but surgeon said it is normal after surgery.  No signs of stroke but her non responsiveness makes us nervous. Is this pretty normal after surgery? This is my first time for this and I need some support and advice? What is to be expected after surgery?

I know what you are going thru. My six year old daughter had her surgery two years ago. It was a long recovery for her. She had a fever that wouldn't go away for two weeks and was in the hospital for almost one month. Even after getting out of the hospital it was a long recovery. She had physical and speech therapists that I finally got insurance to approve that came to our home. It was much cheaper that way. If I would have had to bring her to speech and physical therapy I would have had to pay a co-pay for each visit. She had her surgery on June 20th and the swelling started to go down after a few weeks but then it started to swell back up by the end of July. We took her back to her surgeon and he ended up taking her off of her Coumadin(blood thinners) because the medicine was causing it. Anyways, it took about five months by the time she was given the ok to go back to school. She is now in the first grade and learning to read and I am so proud of her. Just keep the faith and I will pray for your daughter. Let me know if you need anyone to talk to.

Hi trojanfisherman

I was wondering how your daughter was doing. My son had the EDAS procedure done by dr loudon at CHOC recently. Was wondering if you might have any guidance or suggestions.
