Hey Gordon

Really sorry to hear about your mother. What's put her in the hospital bed is the stroke which is a result of the moyamoya. She should be treated as any other stroke victim to try to improve her current bed-ridden state. Treating the moyamoya at this stage won't improve her current situation. But, having said that, the moyamoya needs to be treated to prevent another stroke. You can be guarenteed that if she doesn't get treatment for the moyamoya her situation is going to get worse.

Does she have a neurologist with moyamoya experience? If not, I suggest you seek another opinion because there is only one way to prevent the moyamoya getting worse and causing another stroke and that is surgery.

Best of luck and stay strong

I agree with everything Mark said. You can send her infromation to Dr.Stineberg who is a MM expert in the USA. His infromation is: http://med.stanford.edu/profiles/Gary_Steinberg/

I hope you can find your answer.  I was missdianosed but I keept pushing to find an answer to why i had my stroke since they were calling it a disection or watershead or an aneurism, or blaming it on my bithcontrol, ect. i never got the same answer twice. It was not untill I saw some one who knew MM and believed I could have it said MM. It took about a year for me to get diagnosed.

Please keep us posted on your discoverys. We are here in case you have other questions. I will pray for your Mom to recover, and for you to keep your strength up helping her.

Gordon~

My thoughts are with you, your mom, and your family.

I agree with all that's said here.

I too had a serious stroke which I was able to emerge from, with a new attitude and realization about life. Found out I had moyamoya. Then I had the surgery with Dr. Steinberg and stroked again. Was again able to function after a long long time but.... the point is,  with the surgery (if your mom is a candidate) good things can happen. Again, I was lucky in where the strokes affected  me.

Again, getting another opinion would be good.

Thanks for posting and my thoughts are wilth you all,
